Joseph G. Soucek 74 of Brimfield passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 2, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Joseph M. and Anne (Zagrodnichek) Soucek. Joseph was a US Air Force veteran, a member of the Cuyahoga Falls VFW and worked as a mechanic for City Service. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth (Theriault), son Joseph A. (Heather) Soucek, granddaughter Cadence Soucek and stepchildren Thomas James Fontaine and Stephanie Fontaine. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda (Slovensky) Soucek (d. 2009).
Joe was very passionate about life. He truly enjoyed being a master mechanic for over 50 years working on cars. Drag racing with his son, granddaughter, and “Racing Family” was the highlight of his summer. He also enjoyed traveling, especially cruising the Caribbean. Joe was quite the chef, and his friends and family can attest to his gourmet cooking skills.
Joe will be missed by all who knew him. We would like to thank everyone who reached out through visits, cards, texts and phone calls sending positive thoughts. Joe reacted to every one of the messages by saying “that is a wonderful person.”
Joe Sr’s internment will be Wednesday, December 6 at 10:30 AM at the Western Reserve Cemetery with a formal military service. Per his request Joe did not want a funeral. The family will be hosting a celebration of his life on Saturday, December 9 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Rittman Moose Lodge located at 12527 Sheets Rd. Rittman, OH. 44270. Light food and a cash bar will be available.
Joe wanted nothing more than to win his battle with cancer. With the limited research funding for Glioblastoma Brain Cancer the family has started a fundraiser in his honor and asks in lieu of flowers to please consider making a donation at https://supportbarrow.rallybound.org/ivy-brain-tumor-center-at-barrow/joesoucek
Please feel free to share your memories here! I know my father touched so many people in so many ways I look forward to reading your memories!
Condolences to your family, my thoughts and Prayers are with you. My husband ( Berserk ) raced with Joe years ago at Dragway 42, many good times were had there and good memories made. Berserk has also passed so I’m sure he will be waiting to do some car talk with Joe as soon as he arrives. Again my Prayers are with you all. Linda Burkett.
Walt and I want to say how sorry we are of your dads passing. Joe was a great neighbor and mechanic. Gone way too soon. Will sorely miss him 😢
I’ve watched the Soucek family race for many years before I got to met them. The Father/Son Duo I thought were always fierce and intimidating at the track when I was younger.
Years later I’m sitting around a fire, at Bracket Finals drinking Jack Daniels with this “intimidating” Duo and their families. Realizing the only thing “fierce” about this family, is their love for Drag Racing, their friends and eachother. My heart goes out to the entire Soucek family and extended families. May you all find comfort, joy and laughter in your memories of Sr. ❤️
